Money gates everything in How to Fish — better lures ($15 → $50 → $500 tiers), weapons, and beer for that crucial first boss. Here’s every income stream, ranked by what actually works.
1. Cooked sales are permanent extra money (×1.5)
Unlock the grill by completing the Blue Shark quest on Desert Island. Cooked fish sell for ×1.5 raw price — forever, on everything. This is the single best early investment in your economy. (Fun detail: lava also cooks.)
2. Trick shots stack multipliers
The killscore system pays bonuses for style:
- Headshots
- One-shot kills
- Point-blank kills
- No-scopes and quickscopes
- 360 spins
- Last-bullet kills
- Overkills
They stack. A no-scope headshot overkill pays dramatically more than the same fish killed politely. Even if you can’t hit fancy shots consistently, simply aiming for heads raises income noticeably across a session.
3. Sell smart: bigger islands, bigger fish
Each island’s table pays more per catch. Once Rocks Island lures are affordable ($50 Professional tier), fishing there beats grinding Desert. When Scientific Lures ($500) come into reach, Volcano fishing is endgame income.
4. Quests pay
Boss drops and quest turn-ins (clams for the Keeper, needlefish for the Tourist) inject lump-sum cash exactly when each island needs it. If you’re broke before a boss, check for unclaimed quests before grinding fish.
5. Gambling: fun, not income
The slot machine (legendary skins) and roulette are in-game currency sinks. Roulette’s green bet is the community’s meme strategy — treat it as entertainment after your grill is running, not as a plan.
What about the $100k achievement?
The Millionaire-style achievement asks for a single sale of $100k. Community routes use high-tier volcano catches stacked with cook + killscore multipliers — late-game content, not something to chase on Island 2.
The early-game money loop (first hour)
- Clams → Keeper for seed cash
- Crabs/shrimp → sell → Hot Dog baits for Lobster
- Beer ($12) → Spider Crab → boss loot
- First lure upgrades → Forest Island table
- Grill unlock ASAP, then never sell uncooked again
