Watch: Spider Crab boss fight
The Spider Crab is the first boss most players meet in How to Fish — and the fight that teaches you how every boss works. Here’s how to summon it and win.
How to summon the Spider Crab
- On Lighthouse Island, buy a beer for $12.
- Drink it. You keep the Empty Beer Can — that’s the bait.
- Use the Empty Beer Can as your lure at the boss fishing spot.
The Spider Crab will take the hook, and the fight begins.
The one rule that matters: the escape timer
Under the Spider Crab’s health bar sits a white bar — the escape timer. Every boss in the game has one. If it runs out before you finish the crab, it escapes and you have to re-summon it with another beer can (another $12).
So: kill it fast, or waste the beer.
Easiest strategy for new players
- You don’t need fancy weapons for this fight — starter gear is enough if you aim for the head.
- Headshots matter: the killscore system pays more for headshots, so practice here where the stakes are low.
- Keep shooting while it’s hooked; hooked bosses don’t self-heal, so chip damage still counts toward the timer.
Why this fight is worth practicing on
Every later boss follows the same pattern: special bait summons → white-bar timer → headshot discipline pays. Learn the rhythm on the Spider Crab (the game’s easiest boss) and you’ll save yourself dozens of re-summons on the Giant Piranha, Pufferfish, and beyond.
Once it’s dead, sell the spoils, restock, and get ready for Forest Island — where the leech hunt begins.
